Busy Friday

Dear Mom and Dad of PM Kindergarten:

We had guest teachers today. Ask me to tell you what I did with Mrs. Southworth and Mrs. Gates in our visual journals.

We worked on our writing skills today! Today I copied a sentence starter and tried to finish the sentence. I wrote, “ I like ______”. I learned about what a “finger space” is. Ask me to tell you. During writing I need to have a finger space between each word. At this stage in kindergarten, some of us are working on telling a story through our pictures, copying words, tracing letters, sounding out words to write or labeling. We have been working hard on adding detail to our pictures. We learned quickly that the words “I’m done” don’t exist in kindergarten! When the classroom timer is set, I need to work the entire time. If I think that I am done, I could go back and add more detail, color and or work on adding more detail to my writing.

We continue to work on classroom routines and expected behavior in kindergarten. Please have a conversation with me of what I am expected to do when my teacher is talking and what the expectation is when I am at the carpet area.

Mrs. Ly and Ms. Cvach shared their “ME Bag” with us.  We ran out of time so Mrs. Dei Cont will share her ME bag on Monday. Ask me to tell what items they brought and one thing I learned about them.

Each child will get a chance to take the ME bag home. It comes with a letter to explain how it works. When I have the ME bag, my job is to bring it home and find 2-3 items to share with the class about me. My items will stay at school on a classroom-viewing shelf for about 2 school days for others to view my items. If I bring the ME bag home on Friday, I need to return it with my items on Monday. If I bring the ME bag home on Monday, I need to return it with my items on Wednesday.

Question of the day: Your teacher is reading a story while you are listening at the carpet and someone beside you starts talking to you. WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Kindergarten

Thoughtful Thursday

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today is Thursday! We have learned that "th" is the "rude sound". Tell me to show you how to say this sound (hint: this is the only time you can stick out your tongue at your teacher :))

AM class: We worked on our writing skills today! Today I copied a sentence starter and tried to finish the sentence. I wrote “ I like ______”.

PM class: We had a safety assembly today and we had our very first practice lockdown today! We did amazing. Constable Mattice was at our school today and she was very impressed. We had to be completely silent for about 10 minutes. My teachers are very impressed with me.

We were introduced to a social game called “WHAT CAN YOU DO?” We are all contestants on this game show! Ask me to tell you how the game works. We won an imaginary car and 1000000 points ;)
In order to get points, we need to answer a social question about “WHAT CAN YOU DO?”

Question of the day: You feel squished in line, WHAT CAN YOU DO? Discuss with your family members and post on the blog.

Terrific Tuesday!

Dear Mom and Dad:

We worked on drawing self-portraits today. We have had a lot of practice this past month and we have been having a lot of conversations about how we are unique.  I practiced my listening skills today by following step by step directions to draw my portrait.

During centers we are learning to make it purposeful. Each center that we have in kindergarten has a purpose and helps us with a particular skill. Whether it be practicing our social skills, fine motor, spatial awareness, literacy and or math skills, I am always learning! Ask me to tell you what center I was at today and what I did.

PM class: we had a conversation today about what a lock down is. We will be practicing an internal lockdown tomorrow in the PM. Ask me to tell you what a lockdown is.

Question of the day: Post on the blog what center you were at AND what you did there.

Kindergarten

Take a look at what we have been up to during centres.

Cutting Skills

Dear Mom and Dad:

We had guest teachers this morning. We continue to talk about how we are all unique and special. We have been taking a closer look at the first letter of our name and how that groups us with the other students in our class. We have been working on making a graph. I am looking an wondering what things I can learn from this graph.

Today I practiced my cutting skills. I cut out my droplet for our “bucket filling” lesson.

We were introduced to a new center today. Ask me to tell you what this center was all about? It is called “Mr. Hungry’s feeding center”. At this center, I am working on my fine motor skills by learning to use a mature grasp when drawing, and using my cutting skills.

Question of the day: Post on the blog explaining what the new center was all about and what Mr. Hungry likes to eat.

Happy Thanksgiving! There is no school on Monday. Have a great long weekend and see everyone on Tuesday. J
