Literacy Groups

Dear Mom and Dad:

**Parents, we have a pair of missing girl boots in the PM kindergarten. The student has her name written on the inside. If you could please check your child’s boot to see if they might have taken the wrong pair. Thank you for your help!

Kindergarten started literacy groups today! I will be working with a teacher 2-3 times a week to work on literacy. Ask me to tell you what I did in my group today! This will really give me a boost with my literacy skills. Some of us are learning our letters, some are looking at sight words and some of us are blending words and reading stories.

We are doing centers in gym. Ask me to tell you what centers I tried out today.

AM kindergarten: we did a sketch of our trout eggs! Ask me to describe what a trout egg looks like.

Question of the day:  Post on the blog what you did in your literacy group today.

Good fit goals

Dear Mom and Dad:

Do you know what a good fit goal is? Today we worked with Mrs. Bowles to think about how to make a good fit goal. Ask me to tell you about the different shoes that we looked at. We learned that picking a good fit goal is similar to picking a good fit shoe.

We talked about purpose and interest as well. If I am going snowshoeing, I would pick the snow shoes, not the high heels! Each shoe has a purpose. We then related this to choosing good fit goals for kindergarten. We also discovered that a goal that I am working on might not fit with another student in my class. Mrs. Bowles tried to wear Mrs. Ly’s shoes and it did not fit her!

We have a new activity in gym! Ask me to tell you about what station I was at today.

Question of the day:  Post on the blog one thing you learned about choosing good fit goals from our good fit goals shoe lesson today!

Snow and eggs

Dear Mom and Dad:

Wow we are natural scientists at Ctanston School!

We have 65 new guests in our school! Ask me to tell you about the eggs and what kind of eggs they are. There were about two that have hatched already. We will be monitoring them closely to see if we observe any changes!

Ask me to tell you what happened to our containers of snow! We learned that water comes in 3 different forms. It can be a solid and a liquid as what we have observed. We are investigating what the 3rd property is!

Ask me to tell you what I observed and noticed today about the different containers.

AM: ask me to tell you what we did with Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Southworth.

PM: ask me to tell you about the letter a and what sound it makes!

Question of the day: what do you wonder about the trout eggs?

Winter Walk

Dear Mom and Dad:

A HUGE thank you to all of the parent volunteers today for helping us on our walk. We could not have done it without you!

What an exciting day we had today. Our winter walk was fantastic. Ask me to tell you what I was looking for today and some of the winter signs I saw.

We collected some snow and brought it back to the classroom. We learned that we use a thermometer to measure temperature. We learned that when things are cold, the red mercury goes down and when it’s warmer it goes up! We tested this by comparing the temperature when the thermometer was in our snow and when it was out.

We decided to put the containers of snow in 4 different areas.

1)   Classroom

2)   Outside

3)   Freezer

4)   Fridge

I wonder what will happen to the snow in these different areas!!

Question of the day:  I wonder what will happen to the snow?

A is for Apple and guest teachers

Dear Mom and Dad:

We are going on a community winter walk tomorrow! We will be outside for about an hour. Please make sure I am dressed appropriately for the weather tomorrow. Layers work best! Snow pants, winter boots, gloves, scarves, hats, toques etc.

AM Kindergarten: We practiced looking for A words today. I learned that the letter a is one of 5 vowels. Did you know that it is impossible to spell a word without a vowel?

A is for Apple, a-a apple! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BELlZKpi1Zs

A-A ants on my arm!
