Owls

Sorry for another late post! We were busy again at the second night our Student Led Learning Walks. It was so nice seeing everyone and having your child share their learning of math with you!

Dear Mom and Dad:

We have been talking a lot about owls. In a few weeks, we will be going to the bird sanctuary to participate in a lady bug and owl program. We read a book called White Owl, Barn Owl. Today we looked at live web cams of owls! Check this out!

Question of the day: Post on the blog something new you learned about owls today.

Letter Oo

We hope to see everyone this evening or tomorrow evening from 6-7:30pm for our Student Led Learning Walk.

Dear Mom and Dad:

Sorry for the late post!! Most of you are probably at the school this evening including the teachers!

We talked about the letter O today. Did you know that the letter O can make two sounds. A short sound and a long sound. Ask me to tell you what the sound is.

Question of the day: what did we draw today in our visual journals?

Kindergarten

Pattern, fish, pattern, fish, pattern, fish

Dear Mom and Dad:

We worked on patterning today by using colors to color in a pattern on our fish. You will get to see my work on either Wednesday or Thursday evening. At this time, I should be able to tell you what an AB pattern is. I should be able to create an AB pattern and find patterns in the world.

Ask me to tell you what we did in gym today.

We have a new center in our imaginative play area. Ask me to tell you what it is. We read a book called “doctors” that helps us learn about all the different instruments that a veterinarian would use and how they help animals.

Question of the day: What is the new play center we have today?

Kindergarten

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today we focused on drawing a fish. Tomorrow we will be adding patterns to our fish. I can’t wait to show you my pattern fish when you come to the Student Led Learning Walk either on Wednesday night or Thursday night from 6:00-7:30pm. I am learning to follow instructions and do my best work.

I have lots of mail for you today. Please read all three pieces of mail and return the purple form so I can participate in a special gymnastics program!

AM attends tomorrow

PM parents, please note that we start letting the Kindergarten students in at 12 pm. Please arrive at 11:55 am. This will prevent you from sending your child through the front door as you will be asked to go around to the kindergarten door before 12:06pm. Doors lock at 12:06 pm after the rest of the school enters. Thank you.

We will be welcoming parents to the school for our second round of Student Led Learning Walks. This time, we will be showcasing work from Kindergarten to Grade 4 related to the common theme ‘Mathematics with Literature connections’.  The purpose of Student Led Learning Walks is to make learning visible for everyone as we share what the goals, words and expectations of curriculum look like as they come alive across all grade levels.
·         If your child’s last name begins with letter from A - L please attend on Wednesday, March 9th 6:00 -7:30 pm.

·         If your child’s last name begins with the letter from M -  Z please attend on Thursday, March 10th from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm.

·         If you are unable to make it on the assigned evening you are welcome to change nights.

Wonderful Wednesday!

Dear Mom and Dad:

AM: This morning we used oil pastels! Ask me to tell you what these are like. We created a pattern using the pastels.

PM: We continued our work with patterns today. We worked in partners and I had to extend my partner’s pattern. This can be tricky because I need to carefully look at the core of my partner’s pattern. We learned that the core of a pattern is the part that repeats.

Question of the day: Thank you for making patterns yesterday and posting it on our blog. For today’s post, see if you can FIND a pattern somewhere in your home and post what it is on the blog!

Parents, please note that your child needs to come through the kindergarten doors at the beginning of the day. We have had some issues where parents are sending their students through the front office. Having your child line up with the rest of the kindergarten students will allow them some time to socialize with their friends outside as well as foster independence as we prepare them for grade 1. Thank you for your support with this.

**Tanga Art

Parents can purchase their child’s art for $10.00. All of the proceeds go directly to Tanga School in Tanzania.

If you have not purchased your child’s art and would like to, please send in $10 with your child and they will be able to take their art home. Thank you!
