5 senses

**Monday PM school is going to the Calgary Zoo
**NO SCHOOL for AM kindergarten on Monday

Dear Mom and Dad of PM kindergarten:

Today we talked about our senses and how they help us survive. Ask me to tell you what the 5 senses are. We talked about each one and though about how we would use our senses on Monday for our fieldtrip.

We are going to the zoo on Monday ALL DAY. Please check the weather forecast on Sunday evening and dress your child appropriately. Layers are most appropriate as we will be at the zoo all day and it may get warmer in the afternoon. Please pack your child: bottled water, a couple of snacks and a lunch.

Pick up time at school is around 2:45pm at the kindergarten doors.

Question of the day: What are you most excited for the zoo fieldtrip?

Love,

Kindergarten

Caterpillar Galore!

Dear Mom and Dad:

Exciting things are happening in kindergarten! We set up a camera in front of the tank that takes a photo of the tank every 20 seconds. After about 4 hours of snap taking photos, we looked at all the photos as a time lapse. Ask me to tell you what is happening in the tank.

AM class had guest teachers this morning. We continue to work on community building skills during this time. Ask me to tell you what kinds of activity we did.

PM class drew in our visual journals a caterpillar and then labeled the parts. We learned how to write a title at the top of the page and how to label a diagram.

Question of the day: What are the three different parts of an insect?

Please keep your home reading books for 3-4 days. You can read the book once a day and then try reading it again the next day.

Love,

Kindergarten

Home Reading Begins!

Dear Mom and Dad:

I had spring photos done today!

We looked closely at the letter Zz. Ask me to tell you what sound Z makes and to draw it in the air for you. Ask me to tell you what animal we drew today in our visual journals.

I have a home reading package in my backpack! Please review the letter and read the book with me.  I have a tracking sheet that I need to fill out as well.  I need to read my book at least 4 times. Once I get to four times, ask me to read the sentences backwards to show that I know the words and not just memorizing the book.

When I have read my book at least 4 times within 3-4 days, I can return the zip lock with my book and tracking sheet and then I will get a new book to read. There really is no set date to exchange the books, when you are finished. I learned a new reading strategy today that we call “peaking poodle”.

Question of the day: What does the reading strategy “Peaking Poodle” mean?

Love,

Kindergarten

Spring is in the air!

**Spring Photos Picture Day is tomorrow! Class photos will be taken tomorrow as well

Dear Mom and Dad:

AM class: This morning we looked at photos from our field trip and reflected on our amazing field trip. I wrote in my journals. We also went on a short spring walk to the park by the windmill. Ask me to tell you what signs of spring I noticed along the way.

PM class: We practiced a school evacuation today. Ask me to tell you where we walked to. Kindergarten did awesome!

Forms were sent home today. Please check my folder and sign and return the forms.

Question of the day: Describe on the blog what our caterpillars look like!

Love,

Kindergarten
