Barbra Reid

**The Trout Fish release is today at 2:30pm! We hope to see you there

Where: Sibbald Meadows Pond, Kananaskis Country
When: Today at 2:30pm

Dear Mom and Dad of AM kindergarten:

Mrs. Dei Cont was away today. She was at her daughter’s grade 12 convocation! Congrats to Alex!

Ask me to tell you who Barbra Reid is! We read her story “Picture a Tree” and noticed her amazing art work. We learned that she uses something called plasticine to create her art.

Today we explored this material with many different tools. Ask me to tell you all the different things I tried to make! This will help us when we do our art project next week.

We will be e-mailing Barbra Reid throughout our inquiry of her books, please post on the blog.

Question of the day: What wonders do you have for Barbra Reid?

Have a great weekend!

Kindergarten Rocks

Where: Sibblad Meadows Pond, Kananaskis Country
When: Friday May 27 @ 2:30pm

Dear Mom and Dad:

The blog will be short and sweet tonight as the kindie teachers have the kindergarten orientation tonight for parents bringing their child to kindergarten next year! Our classes put together a short video about how we felt on the first day of kindergarten and tips for parents and students.

The trout release is tomorrow after school hours! Please take a look at the invitation. This is not a school field trip and it is optional. There is no supervision there, children will need to be supervised by their parents at all times.

AM class: We had guest teachers today. Ask me to tell you what games I played with Mrs. Southworth and Mrs. Quilley.

PM class: Ask me to tell you what we drew in our visual journals.

Question of the day: What would you tell someone who is starting kindergarten for the first time?

Love,

Kindergarten

Bye Bye Butterflies!

Dear Mom and Dad:

We had one little caterpillar that did not grow as fast as the others. Ask me to tell you about him. We watched him grow from when he just came out of his egg! He is now in the tank and we named him Herman.

We sang our jolly phonics songs today. We also did a guided drawing of an elephant! Ask me to tell you what letter we worked on today. Ask me to draw the letter in the air.

PM class: We released the rest of the butterflies today!

Question of the day: Post on the blog words that start with e.

Butterflies Galore!

Dear Mom and Dad:

Wow! Ask me to tell you what is happening in our classroom tank! We discovered something new today that happened over the long weekend. Ask me to tell you what I noticed. We had 15 chrysalises, ask me to tell you how many butterflies made it.

Today we worked with Mrs. Stables. She is our artist in residence and we are working on a special project for someone special. Shhhhhh it will be a surprise so don’t ask me to tell you what we are working on.

The PM class released 7 butterflies this afternoon! AM class, we will be releasing them tomorrow.

Question of the day: How do butterflies drink the nectar from the flowers?

Kindergarten

Long weekend!

The trout release is next Friday!! Please see the parent weekly update for details

Dear Mom and Dad:

AM class: I sang our two volunteer songs today at the volunteer tea.

Please ask me to sing the two songs for you. The first one was “Take me out to Cranston School” and the second one was “Who do we appreciate”.

Here is the link for the second song.

We talked about what “EEKK” is. Today I practiced reading with a partner. I should be sitting EEKK with my partner. This means: elbow to elbow, knee to knee. Ask me to read my home reading book with you and show you what this looks like.

We learned a poem

EEKK:
Elbow to Elbow
Knee to Knee
I read to you and
You’ll read to me.
Elbow to Elbow
Knee to Knee
Book in the middle
So we both can see!

PM: ask me to tell you about the butterfly life cycle. There are 4 different stages. I drew the life cycle in my visual journal.

I can sing you two songs that I have learned that appreciate our parent volunteers! Ask me to sing you the songs.

Question of the day: what are the stages of the butterfly life cycle?

Kindergarten
