Cranston families, if you are interested in helping…

IMPORTANT à  Please send your child’s teacher a comment through this BLOG post titled ‘FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES AT CHRISTMAS’. State what item you are willing to contribute or donate based off of the needs the family has indicated so that all other families in your child’s class can see what has been contributed and what still is in need.

Please remember that our families would love to not have to worry about the purchase of food items and more than one gift card to their chosen grocery store would be welcomed!

**We welcome donations of gently used items for our families as well.

All gifts/donations will need to be wrapped and labeled for whom they are intended for. Wrapped contributions will be due by:

A Poppy is to Remember

Dear Mom and Dad

We did some poppy art today. Ask me to tell you why we wear a poppy. 

We have a new guest teacher in kindergarten! Her name is Mrs. Lisa Monteith and she will be with us everyday  until Christmas break and then back in February until April. Here is a photo of her reading to us today.

Dear Mom and Dad of PM Kindergarten:

We read a story called “The Dot”. Ask me to tell you about this special story. I learned that everyone is an artist. Today I did some inspired art by Wassily Kandinsky. I used water color pencils to create dots. Ask me to tell you what my job was using the water color pencils and water.

I brought home my Friday book. Please read what my job is. Thank you!

If Kids ran the world

Dear Mom and Dad:

We read a book called “If Kids Ran the World”. We did a drawing in our visual journals of what we would do if kids ran the world to make it a better place!

AM kindergarten and WEE reads today. Ask me to tell you what we did in our groups.

Dear Mom and Dad:

We added the letter "Bb" to our letter chart. Remember "p" and "b"? I do the same thing with my lips but the "b" is a loud sound. When I feel my throat, I can feel it vibrating. Try it with me!

AM kindergarten, we are starting WEE READS tomorrow, you must have your form signed. Please return it tomorrow if you have not done so

What if everybody did that?

Dear Mom and Dad:

As the weather gets colder, I am learning to be independent with my clothing items. Please let me zip up my jackets, snow pants, putting on mittens, hats etc. on my own. Not only does it keep my warm but it will help me with my fine motor skills as well! 

Kindergarten is learning what reduce, reuse and recycle means. We read a book called “What if Everybody Did That? This begins our inquiry about “What if…?

We also looked at a video about where our recycling goes and followed a journey of a soda can. Did you know that our recycled waste gets sorted at the center and then it gets turned into new items?

We also talked about where our trash goes. Ask me to tell you where the garbage in our black bins go! We started a science experiment because kindergarten wanted to know what happens to garbage over time. Ask me to tell you about the 4 different jars we are using to see what happens to different items.  

Our beautiful stuff bags need to be returned by Monday November 9. We will reveal all of our beautiful stuff into a big pile and then we will sort the items. (just like at the recycling facility)

We have a whole collection of lids. Did you know that when we recycle our jars, water bottles, juice bottles, the lids do not get recycled? Kindergarten is going to turn these items and reuse them to turn into masterpieces! Check out our photos.

Monster Rocks

**Parents please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are labelled. We just received our portable coat hooks and will start using them on Monday. Please have a conversation with your child about putting their mitten, scarves and hats Inside their backpack when they get to school. Because our coat hooks are on wheels and will be moved around, labeled clothing will ensure your child goes home with all their belongings.  Thank you for your help.

Housekeeping:

No School Friday October 30 for PD Day.

Photo retakes are on Thursday November 5. Students who were away for the first round will have their picture taken, if you would like your child to take retakes, please e-mail or send a note to school letting your child's teacher know they need retakes. Thank you

Cranston Peace Ambassadors will be starting a drive for Jacket Racket beginning Monday, October 26th and running to Friday, November 6th. This is a wonderful opportunity for all students to help other children here in our city, by donating warm outerwear that they no longer need. It is a valuable experience for our students and reinforces Cranston School’s commitment to peace and citizenship education. Please take some time with your children to go through their winter items. It is that time of year when we all realize that hats, mittens, boots, snow pants and coats have been outgrown! Please give them a wash and put them in a plastic bag to be brought to school. If you could list the items and sizes on the outside of the bag, it would help the students with the sorting process! We also accept adult sizes, as many older students need help to stay warm in the winter as well!
