Gung Hay Fat Choy

Dear Mom and Dad of PM kindergarten:

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Or Chuc Mung Nam Moi (Vietnamese).

We had a full day of celebrating and learning even more about Chinese Traditions.

Just like in the Chinese tradition, we gathered around tables to have a feast with our friends. We learned that certain foods that we eat on Chinese New Year symbolizes something. I ate noodles today and the noodles mean long and healthy life.  I ate oranges because they represent joy and good luck. I also had some tea! There were no forks and spoons today for our noodles. We learned how to use chopsticks and did our very best. My teachers were very impressed of how hard we tried to use chopsticks and our polite manners. I was given the choice to bring my chopsticks home, I can show you how I use them ;)

I received a special red envelope from my teacher today. I learned that when someone gives me a red envelope, I need to use two hands to receive it to show respect.

AM: Ask me to tell you about the blossom art that I did. We also made firecracker noise to ring in the New Year and bring good luck! Ask me to tell you what we did with bubble wrap. It sounded just like fireworks here in kindergarten today.

PM: Our performance was amazing! After our performance, we watched the lion dance and a martial arts demo! The lion came close to us, it was so AWESOME! It is believed that watching a lion dance on Chinese new years is really good luck. (We will upload the video and pictures from our performance and lion dance when soon!)

Question of the day: Post on the blog what your favorite Chinese New Year activity was today.

Parents thank you for letting us share this special tradition with your child. We hope that they can make this connection for years to come every Chinese New Year! Wishing all of our kindy families a great year filled with happiness and love!

Love,

Kindergarten
