Terrific Tuesday!

Dear Mom and Dad:

We worked on drawing self-portraits today. We have had a lot of practice this past month and we have been having a lot of conversations about how we are unique.  I practiced my listening skills today by following step by step directions to draw my portrait.

During centers we are learning to make it purposeful. Each center that we have in kindergarten has a purpose and helps us with a particular skill. Whether it be practicing our social skills, fine motor, spatial awareness, literacy and or math skills, I am always learning! Ask me to tell you what center I was at today and what I did.

PM class: we had a conversation today about what a lock down is. We will be practicing an internal lockdown tomorrow in the PM. Ask me to tell you what a lockdown is.

Question of the day: Post on the blog what center you were at AND what you did there.

Love,
Kindergarten

Take a look at what we have been up to during centres.

Cutting Skills

Dear Mom and Dad:

We had guest teachers this morning. We continue to talk about how we are all unique and special. We have been taking a closer look at the first letter of our name and how that groups us with the other students in our class. We have been working on making a graph. I am looking an wondering what things I can learn from this graph.

Today I practiced my cutting skills. I cut out my droplet for our “bucket filling” lesson.

We were introduced to a new center today. Ask me to tell you what this center was all about? It is called “Mr. Hungry’s feeding center”. At this center, I am working on my fine motor skills by learning to use a mature grasp when drawing, and using my cutting skills.

Question of the day: Post on the blog explaining what the new center was all about and what Mr. Hungry likes to eat.

Our drumming performance was amazing!

Dear Mom and Dad of AM kindergarten:

I am officially part of Canadian history! Today my voice was recorded singing O’Canada. You can find more information about this here: http://www.flagofcanada.ca

All 3 classes had drumming today.

Happy Thanksgiving! There is no school on Monday. Have a great long weekend and see everyone on Tuesday. J

Question of the day: What are you thankful for? Don’t forget to use the word “because”

Have you filled a bucket today?

Dear Mom and Dad:

Have you filled a bucket today? Today we learned a new concept about being bucket fillers. We learned that we all have an invisible bucket. When our bucket is full, it means that we are feeling good with good thoughts. When our bucket is empty, it means that we are feeling sad. Even our pet has an invisible bucket! When I dip into someone’s bucket I am also dipping into mine. When I am filling someone’s bucket I am also filling my own!

We drew a picture of how we can fill someone’s bucket. You can use this terminology at home about being a bucket filler and a bucket dipper.

In kindergarten we made a promise to be bucket fillers each day.

Happy Thanksgiving! There is no school on Monday.

Question of the day: Post on the blog something you did that filled someone’s bucket.

Love,
Kindergarten

CRANSTON SCHOOL NEEDS 7 BABIES FOR ROOTS OF EMPATHY

We have 7 families signed up so far to participate in the Roots of Empathy program for this school year, and are in need of 7 more. Babies who are 6 months or younger are ideally suited to participate as 'baby teachers' in this most worthwhile program. Babies and and their parent(s) are asked to visit the school for a half hour per month to be present in classrooms with students, teachers and a trained Roots of Empathy Coordinator. We are need of babies for Mrs. Richardson, Ms. MacEwen, Mrs. Grummett, Mrs. Rumpel, Ms. Weldrick, Ms. Klein, Mrs. McEvoy and Ms. MacMillan/Mrs. Sedgewick's classrooms. If you have a baby in this age range, or know someone else who does, I encourage you to consider joining us once a month!  You do not need to have a child attending Cranston School to participate or be a resident of Cranston community - all babies are welcome :)

If you would like more information or to sign up for this fun-filled program, please contact Susanne Jones at the office, 403-777-6267 ext '0'.  We are hoping to begin the program the last week in October so please register as soon as possible.  We love our Baby Teachers!

Thank you!
