Power of Ten

**We will be going to the learning commons to get new books tomorrow. Please have your child return their library books if they haven't already.

Dear Mom and Dad:

We read a story called “Zero”. Did you know that it is impossible to continue to count past 9 without the number 0? Ask me to tell you why!

We worked with “power of ten cards” today. These cards help me subitize! This big word that we have been learning means that I can recognize objects or dot arrangements at a glance without having to count. For example if you show me 7 fingers, I automatically know that one hand is 5. I can use the counting on strategy to figure out how many fingers. For example, 5,6,7.

I got familiar with the cards by ordering them from 1-10 and then I learned a new math game called “More than less than”. Ask me to tell you how to play this game. I can play this game using a deck of cards at home if we have some.

We had dance today with Mrs. Janelle!

Question of the day: Go to this website ----->  illuminations ten frame
Practice subitizing and post on the blog that you went to the website!
