Happy and Rainy Monday

Tate's tower during centres!

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today we wrote in our journals about what we did on the weekend. I am working on showing my fine motor skills by drawing a detailed picture and telling a story. If I can hear the beginning sounds I can label my picture as well. For example, I could label “mom” with “m” if I can hear the “m” sound.

Ask me to tell you what we did in gym today. We continue to practice moving around the gym.

Question of the day: what did you do on the weekend?

Friday Book

Dear Mom and Dad of PM kindergarten:

Hooray! I completed my very first Friday of kindergarten.

**I have some homework in my backpack!**

I have a blue notebook in my backpack. There is a message for you in it. This is my FRIDAY BOOK. Every Friday I will be bringing my Friday book home and it will have some information in there of what my job is to do over the weekend. It is important for you to see how I am doing and the more practice I have, the better I will get.

Please remind me to bring my FRIDAY BOOK back to school on Monday so I can share it with my teacher.

Please click on this link and sing this song with me! It is our circle song.

CIRCLE SONG

Today we read a story called “ Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” We then listened carefully to step-by-step directions and drew our own pigeon.

I had gym in the big gym today. Ask me to show you what “freeze” (freeze) and “stop (stopping what you are doing and sitting criss cross apple sauce)” means.

Question of the day: What is your favorite part of kindergarten so far?

Kindergarten

Journal Writing

Dear Mom and Dad:

We have been looking at our calendar each day. We are also keeping track of how many days we have been at school. Today I learned that we have been at school for 7 days! That is one whole week!

Today we wrote in our writing journals for the first time! WOW my teachers were impressed with how hard we worked. We told a story through a picture. Ask me to tell you what I drew. We also practiced printing our name on the lines. Please help me practice writing my name. If I need help, my teacher might ask me to trace my name or ask me to copy it. My teacher helped me write my story. Right now in kindergarten, I am working on adding detail to my pictures and telling a story through my drawings.

Question of the day: Post on the blog what you drew in your journal today.

Cutting Skills

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today we began our day by looking at our calendar. I learned that today is Tuesday September 8. Ask me to tell you if I know the number day for tomorrow. I will be asked this tomorrow during calendar! We learned some new calendar songs today. These songs will help me remember the days of the week and months of the year. I will be able to sing it to you soon.

I practiced by cutting skills today! Ask me to tell you what I cut out today. Ask me to tell you about chicken wings! I should not have chicken wings (elbows out) when I am cutting. I can practice cutting at home.

We got to play on the playground during school today. We had a discussion about some of the rules of the playground.

**parents please note that the playground is scheduled for grades for before school. This week:

Kindergarten has access to the playground on:

Tuesday – Before School
Friday – Before school

Question of the day: Post on the blog what you did during centers today.

Parents please use the drop and drive in the morning after 8:02 and pick up your child on the compound at the end of the day.

Parents, if we could have your child line up outside before the kindergarten entry, that would be very helpful. There are now signs on the doors. This will allow us to bring the students in right away. Thank you for your help.

Being independent is a huge skill children learn in kindergarten. Please encourage your child to Independently put on and take off their shoes, zip and unzip their jackets and backpacks etc.

Parents please make sure ALL of your child's belonging are labeled with first name and last name initial. We have several duplicate backpacks and shoes and this will be very helpful and prevent any anxiety when your child is looking for their belongings.

Please make sure to sign the kindergarten forms and return it to the school. If you did not receive forms or misplaced them please e-mail your child’s teacher.

We learned a new song about “a circle”. I will soon be able to sing it to you. We also had a dance party!  (See photo) ask me to tell you what song we danced to.

We had gym today in the big gymnasium! Ask me to SHOW you what it means when my teacher says “freeze” or “stop”.
