Snowy Tuesday

Dear Mom and Dad:

What a snowy day it was! As I begin to wear my snow pants, gloves toques, scarves etc. please help me be independent by letting me put on all these things by myself. Thank you for your support.

We learned a new song today!  F song

I have a book from the learning commons today! We have a few learning commons in the school and this week I went to one of them. All of the books are organized by genre. I need to return my book every Monday. Ask me to tell you how to care for my book.

Question of the day:  Post on the blog what your library book is about!

Happy Monday

Dear Mom and Dad:

AM Kindergarten:
We continued to talk about the zones of regulation. Today we talked about the yellow zone. Did you know that it is okay for me to be in the yellow zone but I am learning strategies to move myself from the yellow zone to the green zone. The yellow zone is when I am feeling frustrated. Ask me to tell you what strategies I could use to get out of the yellow zone.

PM Kindergarten:
During math we did an activity called “shake and spill”. I had 5 counter chips, one side is red and one side is yellow. I had to put them in a small cup and shake them and then spill them on the table. Then I used my five frame to show 5 using the colors that spilled out. For example I might have 3 red and 2 yellow which make 5! Ask me to tell you different ways to make 5. You can also ask me how much more I might need to make 5. For example: put out 3 fingers and ask me to show you and tell you how many more fingers I need to get to 5.

Question of the day:  What is your favorite Christmas song that we are practicing?

Blue Zone

Dear Mom and Dad:

We have been talking a lot about the zones of regulation. Today we focused on the blue zone. Ask me to tell you how I would be feeling if I am in the blue zone. I learned that it is ok to be in the blue zone but I need to know some strategies I can use to move me to the green zone. We thought of some strategies to use if we are feeling sad. Ask me to tell you what I can do if I am in the blue zone. We learned that we all have an imaginary toolbox and the tools I use are my strategies.

Question of the day:  What are some of the things I can do if I am in the blue zone (feeling sad)?

Wash your hands!

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today we met our school nurse, Nurse Deanna! She taught us a very important lesson about hand washing. We used a special black light to see all of the germs that are on my hands. I didn’t even know I had so many germs on my hands. We learned that we can’t see germs but we know they are there. After I washed my hands (for as long as the ABC’s song) I tested my hand under the black light! Some of us were surprised to see that there were still some germs on our hands.

Here is the video we watched. You can watch it with me so our whole family are hand washing experts!

Please listen to the “d” dong with me. It will help remember how to make the sound. I learned that D is T's noisy partner.

Question of the day:  What words can you think of that start with D?

Ten little dots

Dear Mom and Dad:

Ask me to tell you about:

AM
- using beautiful stuff to create art using our dot drawings

PM
- singing songs with Mrs. Jones
- creating art with black dots

I am working on printing my numbers from 1-5 right now. Please practice this with me at home. All numbers I print should always start at the top.

Beautiful stuff

Dear Mom and Dad:

The AM class did an art activity this morning. We read a book called "10 little dots" ask me to tell you what I created using different number of dots!

We have been talking about different ways to make 5. I can look for things that make up 5 at home!

The PM class learned about the zones of regulations and that I can feel different emotions throughout the day. We will be learning about strategies of how to go from one zone to another.

Check out some photos from our beautiful stuff project! We have now revealed all of the bags and we are beginning to sort. All of our stuff is in a huge pile and we had a discussion of what we would do next. We decided that we should sort the materials into the jars that students brought. This will allow us to be able to find materials easily. Ask me to tell you some of the things I discovered!

Our bags are on the left waiting to be opened. The anticipation was exciting! The jars on the right are ready to be filled.

Question of the day: how many ways can you make 5?

Race to the top

Dear Mom and Dad of AM kindergarten:

We learned a new math game today! Race to the top. Ask me to tell you how to play this game. This game helps me subitize dots on a dice (recognize the number of dots without counting) and it helps me practice writing my numbers.

Today we revealed some of our beautiful stuff! So exciting! We had some time today to look through some of the items and begin to sort them. “We need to organize the items so it is easier for us to find things” – Noah. (we would love more if you have more clean clear jars please send them in!)

As a class we thought of some categories to ort our items in. Ask me to tell you the different categories we came up with. It is a work in process and we can’t wait to see and come up with different projects to do with our beautiful stuff!
