My name is unique!

Dear Mom and Dad:

We have 3 new student teachers from Mount Royal University in AM kindergarten! They will be here until the end of December every Wednesday morning.

We read a story called “Chrysanthemum” by Kevin Henkes. This was a story about a little girl with a very unique name. Today I practiced writing my name for a self portrait art project. I can practice writing my name at home. If I cannot write my name yet I can practice by tracing my name or copying my name. Please help me with this at home.

I had dance today with Ms. Janelle. We are practicing moving to the rhythm of music while working on our gross motor skills.

I have mail for you today! I have a special colored folder where my mail will go back and forth to school. Please send this folder with me every day even if I don’t have anything in it. It will go home everyday as well. You can teach me to be independent by giving me a job to do when I get home. I can take out my folder and put it in the same spot for you each day. At school I am expected to do the same, take out my folder at the beginning of each day and put it in a special spot at school.

**There is a form coming home today and parents must verify the information and only if we need to make corrections do you need to return it to the school.

AM parents: next Friday October 2 is the Terry Fox run but there is no school for AM kindergarten. There is a pink form that came home today for the Terry Fox snack. AM kindergarten are welcome to come next Friday FOR THE RUN only if they come with a supervisor or guardian. Please only order the snack if you plan on coming next Friday. Otherwise you may discard the pink form. Thank you

Question of the day: Ask your parents how you got your name and post it on the blog!

Love,
Kindergarten

I am unique and Terry Fox

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today I worked with Mrs. Tuli, Mrs. Southworth and Mrs. Jones. We continued to work on self portraits and what makes us unique. I am beginning to look more closely at my features and celebrate how I am unique.

PM kindergarten: We had our very first assembly today. Ask me to tell you what the assembly was all about (Terry Fox). Ask me to tell you one thing that I know about Terry Fox and ask me to tell you some of the things I wonder.

*PM kindergarten parents: Please note that we will dismiss from the gym doors which is just on the side of the compound. We understand that there is heavy traffic at the end of the day and want to make sure that our kindies get out quickly and safely. Please note that this is only for dismissal at 2:58 not for entry.

Question of the day: What was your favorite activity at school today?

Love,
Kindergarten

I am unique!

T
Makayla and Karyssa measuring their tower During centres: "it's taller than us!"

This is Ms. Smith. She is a student teacher who is going to school at Mount Royal University to become a teacher.

Dear Mom and Dad of AM kindergarten:

**I have some homework in my backpack!**

I have a blue notebook in my backpack. There is a message for you in it. This is my FRIDAY BOOK. Every Friday I will be bringing my Friday book home and it will have some information in there of what my job is to do over the weekend. It is important for you to see how I am doing and the more practice I have, the better I will get.

Please remind me to bring my FRIDAY BOOK back to school on Monday so I can share it with my teacher.

Please click on this link and sing this song with me! It is our circle song.

We read a story called “It’s okay to be different” by Todd Parr. We had a group discussion about what it means to be different and unique. I learned that unique means different and special in my own way. I learned that some of us wear glasses, some of us have short hair, some of us have different color skin, different shapes of noses etc.

We worked with Mrs. Tuli, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Southworth. Ask me to tell you what I did with each of them!

Question of the day: What makes you unique?

What does Peace feel like?

Dear Mom and Dad:

Mrs. Ly was away today so we had a guest teacher. Ask me to tell you what her name is.

Today we had a discussion about what PEACE is. We read a book called "What does peace feel like"? We then drew a dove and a peace sign in our journals.

At Cranston School, peace education is an important focus. We are always trying to build a peaceful community in our classroom and in the school. I know that I am part of making this difference.

Question of the day: what does peace mean to you?

AM has school tomorrow from 8:15am-11:55am

Birthday Celebrations:
**Please note that bringing treats is OPTIONAL. The class sings happy birthday to your child on their birthday.

If you would like to send treats on your child's birthday, please send enough for all three classes as we share one space and we do everything together as one class!

There are 65 students in the AM and 56 in the PM.

Some good inexpensive suggestions are Tim bits, 2 bite brownies, mini chocolates, and mini cupcakes. We do have severe nut allergies in the class so please bring a nut free snack.

A circle can be...

Dear Mom and Dad:

Today I got a visual journal and I thought of what “a circle could be”.  I had to think of 4 different things that a circle can be. I am learning to draw a detailed picture with coloring and filling up the white space on my page.

I had dance today with Ms. Janelle. We have been working on rhythm and clapping and moving our bodies to the rhythm of music.

Question of the day: A circle can be… Post on the blog what a circle can be!

Shapes in Math

Dear Mom and Dad:

We continue to work on our daily routines. When I come to school the first thing I do is take off my outdoor, then..... Ask me to tell you my morning routine!

I worked with Mrs. Tuli (assistant principal), Mrs.Jones (music teacher) and Mrs.Southworth (diversity team learning leader). They work with us once a week and we do lots of singing and fun activities with them.

We continue to practice drawing our shapes in math. Today we drew the 4 shapes and turned them into silly characters!

Today we reviewed the expectations during center time.  At this time, centers is a time for me to work on my social skills and fine motor skills, ask me to tell you what I did at center time today.
During centers, my teachers are observing my social skills and how I work with others.

Question of the day: what shape character did you draw?
